Renewal

Renewing Visa Health Insurance for Your Residency

Renewing your policy and renewing your residency are linked, but they're separate processes. Your insurance contract has its own renewal date and terms; your residence authorisation has its own application window and evidence requirements.

Keep both dates in view, as one process won't remind you about the other. We help with your renewal when the time comes.

Your policy schedule

Look at:

  • the policy renewal date;
  • the notice period for cancellation or changes;
  • the new premium and payment frequency;
  • who remains insured;
  • any change of address, passport or identity details; and
  • whether you will need fresh evidence of cover for a residency renewal.

The published Residents Platinum page states that the policy renews after 12 months unless cancelled at least one month before renewal. Other plans set this out in their own schedule and conditions.

Insurance evidence for a residency renewal

Your residence route's current checklist is the guide here. The authority may need evidence that suitable cover continues, and the exact document and wording depend on the route and how you file.

If your route asks for evidence of cover, get in touch in good time so we can go over names, dates and policy details with you before you file. See the visa insurance certificate guide.

Price changes

The price for the next period is the one in your renewal offer, not your original first-year quote. It's worth reviewing the new amount before the notice deadline.

Can you switch plans at renewal?

Moving from a visa plan to another plan may not be automatic, and it may involve underwriting. Before switching, it's worth knowing:

  • whether a new application or health assessment is needed;
  • whether the replacement plan meets any continuing residency requirement;
  • whether waiting periods or exclusions change;
  • whether cover remains continuous; and
  • when the new plan starts.

We coordinate renewals and plan switches so that your existing cover isn't cancelled before the replacement is accepted.

Renewal checklist

  1. Note the insurance renewal and residency filing dates.
  2. Read the renewal notice and policy conditions.
  3. Review the premium and who's insured.
  4. Confirm what evidence the residency route needs.
  5. Ask about any plan change before the notice deadline.
  6. Keep written confirmation of the final arrangement.

Can I move to a cheaper copay plan?

Talk to us before the notice deadline, so you know the underwriting, continuity and residency-evidence implications before you decide. Switches are coordinated so your existing cover isn't cancelled before the replacement is accepted.

What insurance evidence does a residency renewal need?

Your residency route sets the evidence it needs, so look at its current checklist before filing. If it asks for evidence of cover, get in touch early.
