Visa Health Insurance for Applicants Over 60, 65, 70 and 75
The key thresholds are clear. Residents and Residents Visado can be taken out through age 75, until the month of the 76th birthday. Residents Platinum and Platinum Visado can be taken out through age 64, until the month of the 65th birthday. Neither has a published maximum age to remain insured.
Age is only part of the picture. Nationality, route, medical assessment and where you'll live matter too.
Applicants aged 60–64
Both Residents and Platinum may be open to you on age. The choice comes down to the correct standard or Visado version, the medical assessment, and whether Platinum's broader reimbursement and added benefits are useful to you.
Applicants aged 65–69
Platinum is no longer open to a new applicant. Residents or Residents Visado may remain available, depending on nationality and the rest of the application.
Applicants aged 70–75
Residents remains within its joining-age range. An applicant aged 75 must apply before the month of the 76th birthday.
Applicants aged 76 and over
Under the published joining rule, a new Residents application falls outside the age range from the 76th-birthday month. Someone who is already insured is in a different position: Sanitas publishes no maximum age to remain insured.
Couples of different ages
If one person is outside Platinum's joining age, they can't take it out. Work out each person's product eligibility first, then the household arrangement. For the standard (non-Visado) products, Residents publishes a 10% permanent discount for four or more insured people; Platinum publishes 5% for two or three and 10% for four or more. The Visado versions are priced from their own household-size tariff tables.
Medical history
Sanitas says applicants declaring health history are contacted for assessment. Being within the joining-age limit doesn't remove that step.
Price
Price varies with age and also by product, Spanish residence area and household size. Sanitas publishes dated April 2026 tariffs by age, area and number of insured people; they apply in the first year to new insured people whose cover starts from 1 April through 31 December 2026, before a 0.15% Consorcio surcharge.
Availability through us
We can't currently arrange policies for people living in Cantabria (including Santander) or Navarra. This is a limit on our distribution area, not on the insurer's medical network.
