Family reunification
Health Insurance for Family Reunification in Spain
In a family-reunification application, the first question is which relatives need to show insurance, and every applicant must be properly named on the evidence. A sponsor's existing policy doesn't automatically cover a spouse, child or parent, so it's worth confirming before you rely on it.
Who needs insurance?
It depends on the sponsor's status and the route the joining relative is using, and the authority handling the application sets the current requirements. Once that's clear, we match each person who needs cover to a policy they're eligible for. Every applicant must be properly named on the policy and certificate.
Parents and older relatives
Residents and Residents Visado can be taken out through age 75, until the month of the applicant's 76th birthday. Residents Platinum and Platinum Visado can be taken out through age 64, until the month of the 65th birthday.
Age is only part of it: Sanitas also requires a medical assessment where health history is declared.
Children and family applications
Under Residents, a child aged 0–2 can only be insured alongside another insured person aged over 2. Anyone who declares health history is assessed by the insurer, so leave time for that rather than booking around an approval date you're assuming.
Certificates and timing
The certificate follows acceptance, processing and the required payment. Before you submit it, compare it with the application: names, passport details, policy dates and the insured people shown.

FAQs
Can I add my parents to my policy?
Talk to us before relying on an existing policy. Age, nationality, residence and the insurer's medical assessment all affect the arrangement that suits each relative.
Do relatives need cover before arriving in Spain?
That's set by the current checklist from the authority handling the application. Arrange the policy early enough to leave time for the eligibility assessment and for checking the documents.
