Spanish Visa Eligibility Check

A visa eligibility check is a short review of your situation against a route's conditions, done before you spend money on certificates, apostilles and translations. A service looks at:

  • your nationality and where you live;
  • how you'll support yourself, and your work arrangements;
  • who's coming with you;
  • your timing.

It then tells you which route looks realistic and what you'd need to prove. Both visa-processing services in our group offer a first check before the main work starts. It isn't a decision: only the consulate or immigration office decides.

What a check looks at

QuestionWhy it matters
Will you work in Spain, and for whom?The non-lucrative visa doesn't allow work. The digital nomad visa is for remote work for companies outside Spain.
How will you support yourself?Each route sets its own financial test, from a share of the IPREM index to a share of the minimum wage.
How long have you had the job or clients?The digital nomad visa needs at least a three-month working relationship with a company active for a year.
What qualifications or experience do you have?The digital nomad visa needs a degree or vocational qualification, or three years' experience.
Are you in Spain now, and on what basis?Some applications can be made in Spain; most start at a consulate.
Who's coming with you?Family rules and extra financial requirements differ by route.
Where have you lived recently?Criminal record certificates are needed for the countries you've lived in, over a period that depends on the route.

What to send

Have these to hand, in rough form; you don't need certified copies yet:

  • your nationality, and where you live now;
  • your income sources and roughly how much they bring in each month;
  • your savings, if they're part of the picture;
  • your work arrangement: employer, clients or company ownership;
  • your qualifications or years of experience;
  • who's applying with you, and their relationship to you;
  • when you want to move, and any course or job start date.

What you get back

A good check gives you:

  • the route that fits, and the reasons;
  • the points that need strengthening, such as income evidence or the length of a working relationship;
  • a list of the documents you'll need, and which ones need an apostille and a translation;
  • a realistic order and timing for preparing them;
  • what the full service would cost, if you go ahead.

What a check isn't

  • It isn't a decision. The consulate or immigration office assesses the application.
  • It isn't a guarantee. It reduces avoidable surprises, but it can't promise an outcome.
  • It isn't insurance eligibility. Whether an insurer accepts you is a separate medical and underwriting question. See health insurance eligibility.

What the services publish

My Spanish Visa publishes a free eligibility check and a specialist consultation from €149. Platinum Legal Spain offers a free eligibility check before quoting. The scope of each differs, so ask what you'll receive.

We don't pass your details to either service. Choosing one opens its website in a new tab, where you start a separate enquiry.

Where the insurance fits

Once your route is clear, the insurance question becomes specific: what your consulate or office asks for, and when the policy should start. See visa health insurance by route and when your insurance should start.

Frequently asked questions

Is a free check enough?

For a straightforward case, often yes. If your income, family or work arrangement is complex, a fuller consultation may be worth it.

Can I check eligibility myself?

Yes. The route pages here set out the conditions with their sources, such as NLV requirements, DNV requirements and student requirements.

Will a check tell me which insurance to buy?

No. That's our part. Tell us your route and dates and we'll quote for cover that fits.
