Sanitas International Students: Cover for Studying in Spain

Sanitas International Students is designed for eligible students aged 14 and under 35 when they apply, who are enrolled on a course in Spain lasting at least three months. The insurer presents it as adapted to student-visa requirements, with no copayments, no waiting periods, repatriation and a visa certificate, issued after Sanitas approves the application and the policy is paid.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are:

  • aged at least 14 and under 35 when you apply; and
  • enrolled on a course in Spain lasting at least three months.

The policy can match a course lasting from three to fourteen months.

What it offers for a student visa

Sanitas states that International Students provides complete cover with no copayments and no waiting periods, includes repatriation, and provides a certificate for the visa, issued after Sanitas approves the application and the policy is paid. A certificate supports the insurance part of an application; it does not guarantee that a visa will be approved.

Consulates word their requirements differently, so it's worth reading the list published by the consulate handling your application.

Medical history

If a student declares a pre-existing condition, Sanitas says its medical department will call to assess it. "No waiting periods" doesn't mean every declared condition is automatically covered.

Cover while travelling

Published benefits include emergency cover on trips abroad up to €12,000 per year, with a maximum of 90 days per trip. The insurer separately describes repatriation as transfer to the country of origin in the event of the insured person's death.

Repatriation is a feature of this product, not a universal requirement for Spanish student visas.

Duration and payment

The contract may run for three to fourteen months. Sanitas lists monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual payment and a 4% discount for its "annual" payment option. Your quote confirms the payment options available for your application.

What happens when studies end?

The student policy has a defined maximum duration. As the end date gets closer, think about whether you're leaving Spain, extending your studies or moving to another residence status, and talk to us before the policy ends: switching may need a new application.

Frequently asked questions

Is this policy only for university students?

The published criterion is enrolment on a course in Spain lasting at least three months. It's worth confirming that your specific course qualifies before you apply.
