Student Visa Application Help

A Spanish student visa is built around three things that must agree on dates: your place on a course, the money to support yourself, and health insurance valid for the whole stay. The application goes to the consulate at least two months before the course starts, and courses don't wait. Two visa-processing services in our group prepare the application with you, and both publish €799 for a new application. We arrange the student health insurance and check its certificate.

Is a student visa service right for you?

It's a good fit if you

  • have a place, or an offer, at a university, school or training centre in Spain;
  • rely on a parent, sponsor, grant or scholarship rather than your own account;
  • are under 18 and will be in someone else's care in Spain, so both parents' authorisation is needed;
  • have documents from a country where they need legalising before they're translated;
  • want your family to join you on a higher-education course.

Check first if you

  • are already in Spain as a visitor: applying from Spain is possible only for some courses, such as higher education, and only for adults;
  • are taking a language course and hope to bring family: only higher education and specialised health training allow that;
  • plan to work: the student route is about study, with limited work allowed alongside it. Ask your service before you rely on earnings.

What the service delivers

These are the deliverables the two services name in their student fees:

  • An eligibility check. Whether your course and situation fit the route, and which consulate handles you.
  • A personalised checklist. What you need for your consulate, including whether certificates apply to you.
  • The forms in Spanish. Application forms and templates prepared for you.
  • Translations. Sworn translations up to each service's allowance, with guidance on apostilles.
  • Submission support. Preparation for the consulate and help with any questions it raises.
  • After approval. An explanation of the next steps in Spain, including the residence card.

We add one step: we match the insurance to your course dates and check the certificate against your application before you submit.

How the application runs, stage by stage

  1. Course confirmed. Your acceptance or enrolment letter fixes the dates everything else must match.
  2. Eligibility and quote. The service checks your course, consulate and household and quotes for the application.
  3. Means. You show €600 a month in 2026 for the stay, from your own funds, family funds, grants or scholarships. Accommodation paid in advance counts too.
  4. Insurance. A policy with an insurer authorised in Spain, without copayments or waiting periods, valid for the whole stay; where cover is capped, not below €30,000.
  5. Certificates. A medical certificate and, for adults staying over six months, criminal record certificates for the last five years, apostilled and translated.
  6. Submission. At the consulate, yourself or through a representative, no later than two months before term begins, unless you can justify a later date.
  7. The study authorisation. The immigration office has seven days from the consulate's request to decide, and no reply counts as unfavourable.
  8. The visa. The consulate issues it within a month of a favourable decision.
  9. The residence card. For stays of more than six months, apply in person for your TIE within one month of entry.

What to ask a service before you start

  • Is the consulate fee inside the €799 or paid separately, and how much is it for your nationality?
  • How much translation is included?
  • When is each payment taken, and what happens if the visa is refused?
  • Can it apply from Spain for your course, if you're already here?
  • If family will join you, how are they priced?
  • Will it help with the extension if your course runs into a second year?

The student insurance part

Of the three routes, the student stay sets out its insurance test in the most detail. The ministry wants a policy from an insurer registered in Spain, cover comparable to the public system's core services, nothing paid by you at the point of care, no reimbursement model, no waiting periods, at least €30,000 of cover if there's a limit, and a contract that runs for the whole stay. We arrange student health insurance matched to your course dates and check the certificate against your application before you submit. If your course dates change, tell us before you submit, so the certificate can be updated. See our student visa insurance guide and the International Students plan.

Extending a student stay

If your course continues beyond your permit, you may be able to apply for an extension (prórroga) online, during the two months before it expires. Extensions aren't available on every type of study stay. Both services describe help with this. Ask each service for current pricing. Your insurance will also need to cover the new dates. See extending a student stay.

Common mistakes

  • Insurance dates that don't match the course. A common reason a certificate has to be reissued.
  • A sponsor letter without the sponsor's evidence. If someone else is paying, the consulate will want to see their means as well.
  • Mixing up the medical certificate and the insurance certificate. They're two different documents from two different people.
  • Leaving it too late. The two-month rule runs back from the course start date.

Frequently asked questions

Can family members come with me?

Only if you're in higher education or specialised health training. Then a spouse or partner, unmarried children under 18 and, in some cases, adult children who need support can apply to join you, with their own documents and insurance, while at least 90 days of your authorisation remain. See bringing family on a student visa.

What if my course is shorter than a year?

The insurance should cover the course dates the consulate expects. See our student visa insurance guide.

Is the insurance part of the €799?

No. The insurance premium is separate from either service's fee.

Do I pay the full fee if the visa is refused?

The providers describe different arrangements following a refusal. Check the engagement terms before paying.
